More About The Flores House and Our Mission

Welcome! My name is Tara, and I am the founder of The Flores House Blog and TFH + Co. This journey started from a passion for healthy and sustainable living.

I believe that wellness depends on the lifestyle we choose and the environment we surround ourselves with. So, I started TFH to help guide as many people as possible toward health in simple and holistic ways that nature intended.

My Wake-up Call

In my mid-30s, I developed symptoms of autoimmune dysfunction. I watched both my grandmothers suffer from autoimmune disorders. After reading many medical literature and case studies by doctors specializing in integrative and functional medicine, I realized how diet can make or break your health.

Not just diet but everything in our environment can affect how our genes are expressed. We have access to more products than food in America, and whole foods’ nutrient quality has decreased over the years.

Prevention is the best medicine, and I needed access to the healthiest, most nutrient-dense foods possible. So, we started with what we had and built a garden to grow our nutrient-dense organic foods. We also sought local farmers for pasture-raised poultry, eggs, and meats.

I learned the importance of avoiding pesticides and environmental toxins in cosmetics, cleaners, and other items used in “normal” daily life. A cleaner, nutrient-dense diet makes a measurable difference in managing symptoms.

It combines many factors, but managing your environment (stress, allergens, hormones, diet, and much more) can halt the progress of the disease and, in my case, stop the symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia and optic neuritis, both of which are early symptoms of multiple sclerosis.

All About TFH and Our Mission

We are building a community of like-minded people at TFH + Co., our growing multi-vendor marketplace, to uplift local farms, artists, craftsmen, and shopkeepers. Change starts with you and me.

Feel Good and Live an Amazing Life

How you live your life affects everything and everyone around you, just as the external environment affects everything about you (down to your DNA).

Our mission is to encourage and support you in adopting sustainable habits that promote health, prevent illnesses, and improve the quality of life.

TFH Mission Statement

Simple Changes Make a BIG Difference.

The world isn’t perfect, and society is not yet set up for success in promoting health within ourselves and the environment. Luckily, living a more natural life promotes health and benefits the environment.

Sometimes, we must get out of the way and let our bodies heal. That means avoiding the things that slow it down. Prevention is truly the best medicine, so we can’t wait until it is too late.

Here, you will find helpful, evidence-based advice that inspires positive changes in your mindset, health, and well-being.

You can grow your nutrient-dense organic produce!

We waited way too long to start growing our food. I always thought gardening would be hard and needed more space and time.

In early 2020, we spent our downtime building a dream garden to learn to grow some of our food at home. It has been so rewarding, and we continue to reap the benefits year-round. Now, we raise pastured hens for their exceptional eggs.

I wish we had started with containers on the porch or a window herb garden. Instead, we waited until we had the “space.” We waited until we had the “forever home.” A lot of time was wasted.

As we learn more about gardening and growing food for our family, we share it here on the blog.

We Want to Make A Difference

I have been interested in people and health for as long as I can remember. Everyone in my immediate family has developed one or more chronic diseases in their lifetimes, and many died because of those conditions.

We are in a health crisis. People are sicker than ever, and the most brutal truth is that it is primarily preventable with very simple tasks! Sustainable Nutrition is a measurable way to create quick and positive changes in health. Notably, a great way to get that nutrition is through gardening and buying organic produce and pasture-raised meats from regenerative farmers.

Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and many other illnesses are inevitable as we age within our current system. But it doesn’t have to happen to you.

We now know that our genes determine how our bodies function and that our environment affects those expressions- stress, exercise, exposure to toxins, drug and alcohol consumption, and diet, to name a few.

Healthier Environment = Healthier You

Personal health and the health of the planet are dependent upon sustainable choices.
Real progress is made when several people take simple measures to consume less waste, spend their money with green businesses and regenerative farms, and learn to grow and raise some of our foods sustainably.

It’s the little things that make a big difference over time.

Little decisions in your life can either make or break your health and the planet’s health. Human health is deeply intertwined with environmental health. Sustainable living has more benefits than meets the eye, creating a positive ripple effect for generations-effects that change the world, your genetic health, and the genetic health of your children for generations to come.

My team and I are on a mission to help you make the necessary changes to live well, shop smarter, and learn new skills like how to grow nutrient-dense food. I hope you find the information and community to inspire positive change in your life and world!
